Department of Health and Human Services Issues Final Ruling on HIPAA Privacy to Support Reproductive Health Care Privacy

On April 26, 2024, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) published finalized rules supporting reproductive health care privacy. The Final Rule, among other things, prohibits the disclosure of protected health information (PHI) related to lawful reproductive health care in certain circumstances. The effective date of this rule is June 25, 2024. The date by which persons subject to this regulation must comply is December 23, 2024, except for the Notice of Privacy Practices (NPP). The compliance date for the NPP is Feb. 16, 2026.
